Ruby is the Birthstone of July and the 40th Wedding anniversary. Red, the colour of power, inspires love and passion. The name is derived from the Latin word ‘Rubens’ meaning “red”. In Sanskrit language Ruby is called ‘Ratnaraj’ which translates to “King of Gemstones”. It belongs to the Corundum gemstone family, the finest come from Burma, Vietnam, Thailand and Cashmere. One of the most famous Rubies is the Edwardes Ruby which weighs 167carats, in honour of Major General Sir Herbert Benjamin Edwardes (1819-68)) who served for the British in India. |
